Katy Perry’s been very, very busy. After traveling across the world on her 141-stop Prismatic Tour, she traded her mic for a little fun in the sun, vacationing in Greece for the summer. But don’t worry, she hasn’t gone completely MIA. Behind the scenes, the singer has been brewing something fragrant for her fans. For the past few weeks, the singer teased KatyCats with glimpses of Mad Potion on Twitter via a pop-up shop (@katyperrypopup). The latest in her CV of fragrances, it plays with gourmand notes (vanilla bean mixed with jasmine petals and amber musk) and the world of magic. She gave Glow the exclusive scoop on the purple elixir and we can confirm that it’s magical. The concept "Mad potion is playful and mad, as in the Mad Hatter. It’s kind of kooky and crazy and if you see the commercial—me with the magician’s hat, picking out all the different things to put in the hat to make Mad Potion like a strange kitten—it comes from a mad world, but a fun world to play in.” The bottle “I was really heavily influenced as a child by Jean Paul Gaultier and how he made different objects out of his perfumes. Even by Jeremy Scott making the tennis shoe perfume with the wings. I love things that don’t look like perfume bottles because they can rest on your vanity forever if you want. [Mad Potion] looks like a classic potion bottle. The bottom of the bottle looks like magic smoke and the top of the glitter cap is like the brew bubbling up.” The notes “It embodies two of my favourite scents, which is a combination of different types of gorgeous vanillas and different types of musks. Vanilla, as we know, are aphrodisiacs and musk for me is kind of androgynous. I like that combination because it seems very mysterious. It’s definitely playful, it’s definitely sweet, it’s definitely gourmand.” A behind-the-scenes look at the TV ad campaign for Mad Potion, directed by Quentin Jones.
