It is the season for lighter locks. Whether you’re contemplating going for an all-over lighter hue or just a few subtle highlights to perk up your existing shade, here’s some hair inspiration to help you make the switch.

    JESSICA ALBA
Thinking of transitioning into a lighter hair colour like blond? Try a hue with darker roots and highlights that fade into a lighter shade, similar to Jessica Alba’s. That way, you can test out the waters of a lighter hue without commiting to an all-over shade right away.

STYLING TIP: Going from a darker shade to a lighter blond hue can often dry out your strands, especially if bleach is involved. Be sure to do a deep conditioning hair mask to re-hydrate your strands and preserve your hue.

    AMBER HEARD
We’ve got serious hair envy when it comes to Amber’s ash blonde tresses. For a similar look, ask your colourist for super fine highlights in a few shades lighter than your existing hair colour for a more subtle look.

STYLING TIP: The best way to play up your highlights is by styling your hair into waves that frame your face. To prevent any heat damage, be sure to use a heat protectant to prep your strands. Then, use a 1” curling wand to curl strands away from the face.

    ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY
A golden blonde hue like Rosie’s is perfect for the summer and highlights a tan. If you’re lightening your locks, ask your stylist to put in a few lowlights as well to give your ’do for plenty of dimension.

STYLING TIP: To make sure your colour doesn’t fade in between salon visits, opt for a colour preserving shampoo designed especially for lighter hues.

    GIGI HADID
We love how Gigi’s blond haircolour looks like it’s been naturally sunkissed. Her slightly darker roots look effortless, while her blonde highlights add a glossy effect to her waves.

STYLING TIP: To lighten your tresses up one or two shades at home, try a gentle hair lightening product that will gradually lighten strands.

    JULIANNE HOUGH
An icy platinum hue like Julianne’s is a good choice if you want to lighten your existing blonde strands. Opt for an ashy shade with slightly darker roots for a flattering effect.

    STYLING TIP:
If you have fine strands, perk up your tresses with a dry shampoo designed for lighter hair.
