no, I haven’t had too much wine! how I calm down facial redness

I’ve gotten used to people asking me why my face is so red, especially after a jog or more likely, a couple drinks. Besides being unhelpful, I never know how to respond. Ever since a facialist casually told me I might have mild rosacea, I’ve been on a crazed hunt for products that neutralize ruddiness. I've tried redness-counteracting products in the past but a lot of them have an unfortunate green cast that makes you look as though you've just been seasick.

After a recent flare-up that I’ll blame on the seasonal shift, I tried Skyn Iceland’s The Antidote Cooling Daily Lotion. I was a bit taken aback when my skin immediately started to tingle and then I read the package and realized that was all thanks to the calming mint extract. You would not believe how effective this is when your face needs to wake up, and applying it has probably become one of my favourite morning rituals. The entire line is meant to calm stressed skin, which also happens to be in the company’s tag line. When used daily the moisturizer promises to strengthen the skin’s defenses to stress with Icelandic kelp that fights inflammation and white willow bark to calm irritation. I also tried Skyn Iceland’s Arctic Elixir serum underneath the moisturizer. I’ll be using the duo to combat redness and a dull complexion as the winter months roll in. The raspberry complex is a soothing antioxidant that helps repair damage, so I’m banking on it for long-term skin benefits.

On days where I look like I’ve had a bottle of red wine to myself, I call in reinforcements and use a redness correcting primer. I like Almay’s Smart Shade perfect and correct primer because it blends well and has a green and lavender swirl, which brightens up skin. I just make sure to use it sparingly so no one starts asking why my skin is green.
