We all want radiant, sun-kissed skin year-round, but in the summer it really does top our must-have list. Whether it’s a subtle California girl glow or a bronzed goddess look, self-tanners are a safe, DIY way to get flawless colour. We sat down with St. Tropez tanning expert Sophie Evans, who’s faux-glowed celebs like Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss, for her top ten tanning tips, including advice on how to use some of the brand’s latest innovations. Tips for St. Tropez’s new Gradual In Shower Tanning Lotion Put your tanner to work in the shower For a smooth, even tan, Evans recommends using it at the end of your shower, after you’ve shaved. “Use your bare hands and blend it from your feet up to your head onto soaking wet skin and make sure you’re covered.” 3 minutes flat Evans recommends leaving it on for a minimum of 3 minutes. Try multi-tasking by applying a hair mask or using your Clarisonic while waiting for your tan to activate. Then a quick rinse off and you’re good to go. Skip your post-shower moisturizer “[You don’t need a] moisturizer because it contains sweet almond oil which is really hydrating for the skin,” says Evans. Build it up To build up a deeper, sun-kissed look, Evans says to use it every day for three or four days in a row. Whereas using it once or twice will give you a light, natural tan. Routine maintenance If you’re looking to just top up your tan, Evans likes to use it twice a week to keep her glow just right. “Once you’ve reached your desired shade, you can back off for about two or three days and then you don’t have to use it as much.” Exfoliation is key Exfoliating your skin on a regular basis is a must to ensure you have an even tan with minimal patchiness. If you do have an uneven area, Evans recommends taking a damp washcloth and rubbing it over the patchy colour, then topping the area up with a coat of the in shower lotion. A test run is always a good idea Got a big event to attend and want the perfect faux glow? “Do it the day before [your event] for a trial run so the [colour] will have time to settle,” says Evans. “If you do it the night before, use the [Self Tan Bronzing Mousse] as it will be longer wearing.” Tips for St. Tropez’s new Self Tan Luxe Facial Oil Less is more When using it, Evans says two or three drops is all you need. The colour takes about 8 hours to develop, so it’s easy to use at night. Just smooth a few drops onto your skin and wake up glowing. Five is the magic number The oil doesn’t require much maintenance. Where some formulas need daily application, Evans advises reapplying every five days to maintain your colour. Be a mixologist For a foolproof gradual glow, Evans says to mix it with your daily facial moisturizer so you have more control, and you can slowly build up your tan.
